ATV/UTV TRAIL UPDATE

Diamond roof rd. will be closing this summer to put new culverts in the road.

This Saturday May 14 all remaining Red Arrow trails (Forest Roads) will be open. There are 2 major changes to the trails in Townsend area. The first is ATV/UTV’s on Oconto County roads north of 22 will be permitted starting this year. These are county roads with letters such as T or F. Oconto County tourism Facebook page will have more information on this. Our current paper maps were out before this change was made. To see an updated map you will have to see it on the Oconto county tourism Facebook page. The official speed limit will be the same as currently posted for the road traffic. There are also a whole list of rules if you cannot find them on the Facebook site I added a copy here under Chapter 27 03.24.22 (1) make sure you read 27.7 as it pertains to younger riders and hours of operation. A link to Oconto county tourism Facebook page is posted below. Be safe out there especially when traveling the new road routes as cars and trucks will not be looking for you.

The second big change is Oconto county is testing dust control on the Nicolet State trail through Townsend. The trail has had a new bed of limestone put down this was done last fall at the end of the season. This spring a dust control liquid Durablend-CEP was sprayed at .3 gallons per square yard. The past club board had looked at options such as blacktop, wood chips, something to control dust. This being a main snowmobile route we did not want the new surface to impact negatively on snowmobiling. A description of the material is in the link below. We did learn it is slightly corrosive. We were told 10 times less corrosive then the sprayed material on the road. We have the Safety Data Sheet on the substance and it is not hazardous to people or the environment.

Thats all I have for now I will try to keep updating the home page with the new rules for traveling county roads. I also will update the trail reports as needed.

AWESOME RED ARROW NEWS

In early June, Red Arrow was chosen by the American Council of Snowmobile Associations (ACSA) to be honored as the 2021 National Snowmobile Club of the Year.  The award was presented to the club at the International Snowmobile Congress in Omaha, Nebraska on June 12, 2021.  At the award ceremony Red Arrow was informed that they were also chosen as the International Snowmobile Club of the Year.  Red Arrow was inducted into the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame in Eagle River, Wisconsin on September 18, 2021.
